Under the railway — a creative town
The elevated structure under which the Takuminohako shop is located is called 2k540. “2k540” (pronounced *ni kei go yon maru*) was developed by JR East Urban Development as a commercial facility based on the concept of “manufacturing.”
The name comes from railway terminology — railway officials measure distance starting from the stationmaster’s office at Tokyo Station. “2k540” simply means 2 kilometers and 540 meters from Tokyo Station.

Currently, around 50 studio-style shops operate in 2k540. Stores range from umbrellas and leather goods to furniture, resin crafts, jewelry, ceramics, and artworks. Many shops host demonstrations, workshops, and tailor-made services that allow visitors to experience traditional craftsmanship firsthand.
Events and atmosphere
Various events are held regularly in the central event space — sometimes weekly, sometimes daily — offering visitors fresh encounters each time. Business hours are 11:00–19:00 (closed Wednesdays). Even on weekends, mornings and evenings offer a peaceful time to stroll and browse.
Cafés and rest spaces
2k540 also features cozy cafés like Cafe Asan with hammocks, Yanaka Coffee, and an Italian restaurant called Boo, whose mascot is a cute little alien. It’s a relaxing space where you can spend a slow afternoon in the heart of Tokyo.
